Sand Mountain Sams Chapter Photos

"The Sand Mountain Sams of the Albertville area raised money throughout 2006 for the benefit of the Pediatric Critical Care Services at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. A total of $3,142.25 was raised collecting aluminum cans, holding a yard sale, and donations from Chapters members as well as others at the yard sale. Pediatric Critical Care Services serves hospitals throughout North Alabama. In December 2006, Chapter members and Gordon and Pat Smith visited the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children to present a check. Fontene Walker is shown presenting a check for $3,142.25 to Beth Daniels, Child Life Coordinator. The Chapter decided to designate the donation to the Child Life program, which is a part of the Pediatric Critical Care Services. The goal of the Child Life program is to help children and families experience a positive hospital stay. The certified Child Life Specialists use tools like child-friendly playrooms to help children cope with their illnesses. Child Life Specialists also provide easy-to-understand explanations about the hospital to help prepare patients and their families for procedures and surgeries.
Our Chapter will continue to support the Pediatric Critical Care Services at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children in the year 2007".

"Members of the Sand Mountain Sams of the Albertville area held a yard sale in October 2006 to raise additional money for our charity fund. Shown are some of our Chapter members behind the sign displayed at the yard sale stating that "PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT PEDIATRIC CRITICAL CARE SERVICES AT HUNTSVILLE HOSPITAL FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN." Pediatric Critical Care Services at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children serves hospitals throughout North Alabama and is the area's only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A total of $903.75 was raised at the yard sale, part of which were donations people made in addition to items purchased. The money raised will be combined with the other money raised throughout the year for our charity fund and presented to the Pediatric Critical Care Services at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children sometime in December 2006."

"Pete and Faye Parker of the Sand Mountain Sams are shown presenting crocheted baby blankets to Denise Patterson, Nurse Manger for Pediatric ICU, and Lori Lowery, Nurse, at the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in December 2006, on the same day that the Chapter presented a check for $3,142.25 to the Child Life Coordinator of the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children. The blankets were crocheted by the Parker's daughter, Lisa Hayes, and Lisa's mother-in-law Helen Hayes. The Pediatric ICU unit is part of the Pediatric Critical Care Services at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children which the Sand Mountain Sams supported during 2006 with money raised during the year. Chapter members had inquired some time ago about providing blankets to the patients in the Pediatric ICU. These blankets will be given to patients by the Pediatric ICU to take home when they are released since it is not feasible to sterilize the blankets to be used in the ICU."
